Also sometimes called “autologous fat transplantation” or “micro-lipoinjection,” this procedure is used to gracefully lift and fill areas of
the face. Fat loss in the face is very common and can cause undesirable signs of aging including wrinkles, sagging skin, hollowing or bags
around the eyes. With a facial fat transfer procedure, fat cells are drawn from another area of the patient’s body, purified, and then
carefully injected just under the skin into areas of the face where fat cells have diminished. This helps to smooth, firm and lift facial
features without the possible adverse side effects of synthetic fillers.
Facial fat transfer can be used to improve conditions such as:
• Sagging skin around the mandible (jaw line)
• Under eye bags or wrinkles
• Hollowing of the upper eye lids
• Sunken cheeks
• Acne scarring
• Facial deformities resulting from injury
Facial fat transfer does not require any incisions and is a safe, non-allergenic procedure. With lasting and natural-looking results, facial
fat transfer is rapidly growing in popularity in the St. Louis area as an alternative to other anti-aging and wrinkle treatments.
Recontouring facial features can restore a more youthful appearance and increase confidence. Facial fat transfer can also be done in
conjunction with other cosmetic procedures for dramatic improvements. Dr. Bligh provides personalized consultations in the St. Louis area to
discuss your goals and concerns to recommend the best solutions to fit your needs.
Dr. Bligh schedules consultations with all of his St. Louis area patients to review medical history and conduct a thorough physical exam.
Patients should notify the doctor of any medications or supplements being taken and should also be honest about nicotine use. Blood pressure or
blood thinner medications should be especially addressed.
For the physical exam, Dr. Bligh will carefully observe facial features and problem areas of the face that can benefit from filling. He will
also examine “donor sites” of the body such as the belly, hips, and thighs from which highly concentrated fat cells will be retrieved.
Dr. Bligh will then schedule a preoperative appointment to review precautions and preparations for the facial fat transfer procedure for each
patient to follow.
Most patients should allow at least a few days for recovery. There will likely be some bruising at the injection sites, so you may want to
minimize social exposure for up to a week after the procedure. After 2-3 months, the injections will have settled and you should be able to
determine if additional sessions are needed to achieve the symmetry and fullness you desire. Sometimes 2-4 sessions are recommended to achieve
the final results, and these benefits will last for many years. If you are interested in improving the fullness and youthful contours of your
facial features, the facial fat transfer procedure can enhance your appearance and contribute to a healthier, more revitalized look. Dr. Bligh
is highly trained and exceptionally committed to giving his St. Louis area patients personalized attention and care.
